Continuing Education
All AIA architect members must successfully complete 18 learning unit (LU) hours each year, with at least 12 of the 18 LU hours relating to health, safety and welfare (HSW). The Ohio Architects Board requires each architect to earn 12 structured HSW continuing education hours per calendar year (January 1 to December 31) All continuing education hours must be in areas related to Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW). This includes topics that enhance the architect’s knowledge and competence in the practice of architecture.
AIA Youngstown provides a variety of opportunities throughout the year for continuing education. Lunch time LU and HSW programs are provide via national providers on the Teams or Zoom platform. In addition to these online or virtual programs, AIA Youngstown offers locally curated programs at project sites and with industry providers to round out member CE needs.
Most programs are offered free of charge to AIA members. AIA Youngstown works with AIA Ohio to advertise CE programming on the AIA Ohio weekly programming email that is provided to AIA members across the state.
AIA Youngstown works closely with AIA Ohio to provide programming at the AIA Ohio annual conference. Programming is also offered by AIA Ohio through the AIA Ohio College of Fellows.
Additional CE opportunities are provided through AIAU, a national platform developed by the AIA for architects to learn and earn continuing education credits online. Both paid and free learning units are available on AIAU, including board training programming.
