The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a three-tier professional organization serving the architectural profession. Members include registered architects and other individuals who work as part of the architectural design community.

AIA Youngstown, first chartered by the Institute on March 21, 1930, was incorporated in Ohio on April 26, 1955. Known originally as AIA Eastern Ohio, the chapter’s territory included 14 counties throughout eastern Ohio. In 1968, the chapter was split into two entities. AIA Eastern Ohio continued to serve a three-county area in the northeastern part of the state, while AIA Akron was established to serve an 11-county area in the mid-northern Ohio area. In 2020, AIA Eastern Ohio officially changed its name to AIA Youngstown, better defining the area that the chapter served. AIA Youngstown is one of the seven chapters that make up AIA Ohio.

The AIA is the world’s largest, most influential network of architects and design professionals. That includes more than 101,000 members who share a passion for design, a desire to change the world, and a commitment to the highest standards of practice. With just under 70 members,  AIA Youngstown embraces that same passion and commitment as part of the nearly 2,300 members of the AIA Ohio architectural community.
