AIA Youngstown members participated in this year’s AIA Ohio Advocacy Day in Columbus, OH, on May 30, 2025. Advocacy Day, which is sometimes called Day at the Statehouse, is an opportunity for members to learn about current issues, rules, and regulations being considered by state agencies and the Ohio Legislature and how AIA Ohio members can support or oppose the proposed changes.
Advocacy Day is an annual effort that engages members of the Ohio House and Senate, or their legislative staff, on issues of importance to the design and construction industry. This year, AIA Ohio focused our energies on three issues. This included opposition to legislated rules and codes in the Budget Bill, support for Historic Preservation Tax Credits in the Budget Bill, and Support for SB28 restricting large investor housing ownership in Ohio counties. The participating members also delivered information on the value of licensed architects and the architectural profession.
AIA Ohio had just over forty participants for the event, which included a panel discussion, legislative update, and briefing review. AIA Youngstown was represented by AIA Ohio Board member Bruce Sekanick, FAIA, and AIA Youngstown President-elect Greg Struna, AIA. #AIAOhio #AIAYoungstown
